Intermediate Grades (3-5)

In Grades 3–5, students begin to understand who they are as learners, leaders, and children of God. At Holy Spirit Catholic School, we are proud to walk with them during these formative years as they grow in faith, knowledge, and kindness.

GROWING IN CONFIDENCE, FAITH, AND RESPONSIBILITY

In Grades 3–5, students at Holy Spirit Catholic School continue to build on a strong academic and spiritual foundation while developing the skills and confidence they need to become independent thinkers, responsible classmates, and faith-filled leaders. This stage of learning is marked by increased academic expectations, deeper faith exploration, and growing personal responsibility. Our dedicated teachers nurture each student’s individual gifts while helping them rise to new challenges—both in and out of the classroom.

Faith in Action

Catholic identity remains at the heart of everything we do. In the intermediate years, students continue to grow in their understanding of the faith through daily religion instruction, weekly Mass participation, service activities, and deeper reflection on how to live as disciples of Christ. Opportunities to lead in prayer, serve others, and participate in school-wide liturgical celebrations help students live out the Gospel each day.

Academic Growth and Development

Students in grades 3–5 are encouraged to think critically, work collaboratively, and begin to take more ownership of their learning. Teachers support this development through:

  • Differentiated instruction to meet varying academic levels and learning styles
  • A strong focus on reading comprehension, writing, and vocabulary development
  • Continued emphasis on math fluency and problem-solving
  • Hands-on science investigations and social studies that emphasize Catholic values and global awareness

Formal assessments, including the NWEA MAP Growth assessments, help guide instruction and track individual progress across core subjects.

Enrichment Through Specials

Intermediate students enjoy a broad range of Specials classes that support creativity, physical development, and global understanding:

  • Art

  • Music

  • Library

  • Physical Education (PE)

  • Spanish

  • Technology (Grades 4, 5)

These classes encourage students to explore new interests and grow as well-rounded individuals.
