Primary Grades (K-2)

At Holy Spirit, our Primary Grades are filled with joy, curiosity, and care—where children are known, loved, and encouraged to become who God created them to be.

LAYING THE FOUNDATION WITH FAITH, JOY, AND PURPOSE

At Holy Spirit Catholic School, our Primary Grades (Kindergarten through Grade 2) are a joyful and nurturing environment where children begin their academic journey rooted in faith, wonder, and discovery. We believe that early childhood education is foundational—not only for academic success, but for building character, confidence, and a love of learning that will last a lifetime.

Faith and Formation

Each school day begins and ends in prayer. Students grow in their relationship with Christ through daily religion lessons, participation in weekly Mass, and a school-wide commitment to our mission of forming servant-hearted leaders. Service and kindness are modeled and practiced from the very beginning, helping our youngest learners understand how to live the Gospel in daily life.

Meeting Students Where They Are

Recognizing that children grow at their own pace, we provide differentiated instruction and support systems to meet each child’s unique academic and developmental needs. Our goal is to help every student feel confident, successful, and loved—spiritually, socially, and academically.

A Strong Start in Literacy and Math

We use the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction, which provides a multi-sensory, structured, and phonics-based method that lays a strong foundation for literacy. In math, students build conceptual understanding and fluency through hands-on learning and problem-solving.

The Importance of Play and Movement

We believe that movement, creativity, and play are essential for young learners. Our teachers incorporate purposeful movement and structured play throughout the day to support cognitive development, emotional regulation, and joyful learning.

Specials Classes

Students in K–2 enjoy a well-rounded educational experience through weekly Specials classes, which include:

  • Art

  • Music

  • Library

  • Physical Education (PE)

  • Spanish

These classes allow students to explore their interests, develop new skills, and express themselves in meaningful ways.
