Middle School

The Middle School program operates as a distinct entity within the greater school community, providing academic excellence and preparation for entry into high school.

INSPIRING CONFIDENCE, INDEPENDENCE, AND LEADERSHIP IN GRADES 6-8

The Holy Spirit Middle School program is a dynamic and faith-filled learning environment where students in Grades 6 through 8 are prepared for the academic, social, and spiritual demands of high school—and beyond. As a distinct part of our PreK–8 school community, our Middle School fosters academic excellence while nurturing leadership, responsibility, and a deepening of Catholic identity.

Middle School at Holy Spirit is designed to help students grow into confident, self-directed learners. Our students are guided in mastering essential skills such as:
  • Self-advocacy
  • Organizational strategies
  • Time management and executive functioning

These foundational habits empower students to take responsibility for their learning and develop the independence they need to thrive in high school and life.

Rooted in the Curriculum Guidelines of the Diocese of Arlington, our Middle School offers a strong academic program enriched by Catholic teaching and values. Students benefit from a departmentalized structure with teachers who are passionate subject-area experts and mentors.

Highlights of the Middle School Curriculum:

  • Advanced Math Pathways: Students are placed in courses based on readiness, including Core Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Geometry, taught by two full-time math specialists.

  • World Language: Spanish: Students progress through a three-year Spanish curriculum that culminates in completion of High School Spanish Level I. Eighth graders take the Diocesan World Language Exam and may place into Spanish II in high school based on performance.

  • Electives Program: All students participate in an evolving elective rotation, which typically includes Art, Music, and Technology, with additional options offered based on student interests and faculty expertise.

  • Faith Across the Curriculum: Catholic teaching is integrated into every subject area, helping students deepen their relationship with Christ and live their faith authentically.
